Main Purpose & Function
This position manages the technical and administrative activities of the District Electrical Inspectors and assists the City Electrician in administering the provincial Safety Standards Act and the Vancouver Electrical By-law. This position holds technical decision-making authority under the Vancouver Electrical By-law, under provisions of the Vancouver Building By-law, in relation to all electrically connected fire and life safety systems, and supervises staff, including hiring, evaluation, support, coaching, and professional development.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities
Under the direction of the Manager, Trades Inspection, the successful candidate will supervise and direct activities of the District Electrical Inspectors and the Electrical Plan Checker who are engaged in responsible inspectional work enforcing compliance with the City of Vancouver Electrical By-law and other related by-laws, codes and regulations. Responsibilities include: arranging distribution of workloads; reviewing the reports of the inspectors; evaluating their performance and providing day-to-day guidance; answering technical by-law questions from engineers, contractors and owners; and related duties as required. In addition, the Deputy City Electrician works closely with the City Electrician & the Manager, Trades Inspection, in developing and setting inspectional standards for inspectors and in providing orientation, training and the development of the field inspectors. In addition to carrying the title of Deputy City Electrician, the successful candidate will also act as the Electrical Safety Manager.

Must be a holder of an Electrical Qualification Certificate for an inspector in conformance with Section 32 of the Electrical Safety Regulations of the Province of BC and have a minimum of five years experience as an electrical inspector, preferably experience in training and supervising a large group of employees performing inspectional /regulatory duties. The successful candidate will have proven a high degree of competence as a District Electrical Inspector, plan examiner or QCC, have the ability to supervise and direct inspectors and to maintain a harmonious and cooperative atmosphere within the group. Demonstrated knowledge of the Vancouver Building By-law and other applicable codes and standards, related to the electrically connected fire and life safety equipment is a requirement for  this position. Demonstrated ability to express ideas and to interpret by-laws and regulations and convey the information to others clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing, is a necessity. Ability to deal tactfully and effectively with the public and staff. Local area travel is a requirement of this position. Transportation arrangements must meet operational requirements of the Department. A valid BC Drivers license is required. The license must not include any restriction that would affect the ability to legally and safely carry out job responsibilities.

The TSX stock exchange defines an index as a statistical measure of the state of the stock market, based on the performance of certain stocks.
