Chief Administrative Officer

Central Coast Regional District, Bella Coola, BC

Known as the Gateway to the Great Bear Rainforest, the Central Coast Regional District (CCRD) is home to some of British Columbia´s most spectacular scenery and natural beauty. Encompassing some 25,000 square kilometers and serving a population of less than 4,000 people, the Regional District includes five electoral areas and the unincorporated communities of Bella Bella, Denny Island, Ocean Falls, Oweekeno, Bella Coola, and Hagensborg.

The office of the Regional District is located in Bella Coola.  With its close proximity to Tweedsmuir Provincial Park, residents in the Bella Coola Valley enjoy hiking, ocean and fresh water fishing, helicopter skiing, cross country skiing, snowmobiling and associated outdoor activities.  Amenities include affordable real estate, K-12 schools, a hospital, a day care centre, a community hall, a swimming pool, a library, restaurants, and various churches.  A number of clubs offer such activities as fitness programs, yoga, cycling, horse-back riding, basketball, volleyball, badminton, choir, and local theatre. Although considered remote, the Bella Coola Valley is accessible by road, B C Ferries (seasonal), and daily flights to and from Vancouver.

Reporting to the CCRD Board, as the new CAO you will bring leadership, credibility and knowledge as a team builder who understands the diverse needs of a remote Regional District and the citizens it serves.  The role spans all aspects of managing a complex organization that includes services related to regional planning, water resources, solid waste management, emergency program management, parks and recreation, environmental sustainability, airport management, and regional infrastructure management.

Your background includes strong academic credentials and several years’ experience in a senior municipal administrative role.  You will be an effective communicator with a proven track record in developing strong relationships, providing sound professional advice, developing people, problem-solving, and experience in understanding of the benefits of positive First Nations relations.  You are committed to creating processes and efficiencies that deliver on the goals of the Strategic Plan.  In personal terms, you are a person who is approachable, visionary, inspiring and demonstrates openness, integrity, trustworthiness, business expertise and decision-making qualities.

Qualified applicants are invited to apply in confidence no later than 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 20, 2013, with a covering letter, detailed resume and three (3) references to:

What is S&P/TSX Composite Index?

S&P/TSX Composite Index

The TSX stock exchange defines an index as a statistical measure of the state of the stock market, based on the performance of certain stocks. The performance of the index is typically viewed as a broad indicator of the direction of the economy. Originally known as the TSE 300 the composite index was created in 1977, with a base level of 1000 as of 1975. Through the years the index consisted of a sample of 300 companies, though the companies that comprised the index varied from year to year. Stocks were dropped when they no longer met exchange requirements for size and liquidity.

Effective May 1st, 2002 the index has been managed by Standard & Poor's Corp. of New York. The name was changed from the TSE 300 to the S&P/TSX Composite Index. Along with the S&P branding came new rules. Tougher criteria for meeting size and liquidity standards were imposed and there is now no fixed number of companies in the index. Since May 2002 the number of companies has dropped from 300 to 212 as of November of 2003.
